Despite the long line and spending about 75 minutes here, I have to give this place 5 stars for being not only better than your average post office, but far better than your average DMV. The staff here is surprisingly nice and calm. Amid my mounting frustration at the paperwork requirements for a Real ID, the staff here are calm, succinct, accurate, patient and they move the line along with an impressive bureaucratic politeness. I have two theories, I hope someone knows: 1. The SoS office selectively locates staff all over the state with incredible people skills and recruits them to work in this location. How else is it possible that such a high concentration of competent and patient employees are at the same DMV? 2. This location gets some extra training on how to deal with people who've been standing in a line or waiting for their number to be called for 20+ minutes because they manage to keep the place pretty calm. I hope someday I can have the 5-20 minute experience others write about... but bring a book and prepare to be amazed.

By and far the fastest and most efficient place I've ever been to. I wish others were this great at getting people what they need in a timely manner. I'm not sure I've ever spent more than about 30 minutes getting something done here. It's almost hard to believe.

Chicagoans can be a very cynical bunch. A lifetime of bad weather and even worse politicians can do that to people. But if you want proof of the inherent good nature of people here, look no further than this place. I have, on multiple visits here over the years, forgotten to bring some form of necessary documentation. On every occasion, the employees here have not only been extremely polite about what I needed to bring back, and that I could skip the line in doing so, but have also been borderline apologetic. Like me forgetting an electric bill with my new address was somehow their fault. God bless them. They work in a DMV in the basement of a sterile government building, but their attitude and general demeanor is genuine and content. We should all do half as well at our jobs. Maybe we should all just work here.

I was dreading this, putting this off and I am so glad I came to this facility. Within 5 minutes I had my picture taken, vision test, payment and temporary license printed and ready to go! You can't beat this level of service and efficiency! Pro Tip 1 - quick access to the facility from the Washington St blue line entrance in front of Trattoria #10. Go downstairs, hang a left and the facility will be on your right. Pro Tip 2 - if paying with credit card, there is a $1 surcharge. Bring $30 cash and avoid the charge. Pro Tip 3 - don't bring any food or beverages to this facility. They are pretty strict about this policy.
